Are you ready to resist a religion that values gold leaf Bibles over starving children? Are you ready to resist a world that wants us to find our identity, value, and worth in what you wear, what kind of music you listen to, or who you are friends with?

Blaise Pascal once said that God made man in his own image and we returned the favor. In our culture we have all heard about Jesus. Sometimes it’s the blonde haired blue eyed white safe suburban Jesus. Sometimes it's the Republican Jesus. Sometimes it's the Jesus who really loves you if you did the right song and dance this week. Sometimes it’s the Jesus who hates you if you are gay, have had an abortion, or don't read your Bible everyday. We have all heard about a Jesus.

But somewhere the real Jesus got lost in our piles of religious trappings. Amidst all the things the American church began to associate with Jesus, we lost sight of who he is. For some reason we began to think that a homeless prophet really wants you to wear a tie to a building that we mistakenly call the church. We began to think that the one who, upon his death cried out for the forgiveness of his enemies wants us to destroy ours. We (and I am talking about myself and others who are the church) began to think that suffering was just something did on the cross for us and not something we are called to do for the world so that hungry bellies can be filled, oppression can cease, and peace can reign. This is the American tragedy. This is not the failing of a political system, or social ideology, but it is the failing of the people called Christians. GK Chesterton once said that the problem with the Christianity is not that it has been tried and found wanting, but that it has been found difficult and left untried.

So, back to Jesus… There is a relentless compassion and tenderness to Jesus that will amaze you. He never quite fits neatly into who we think he should be, but he always amazes us with his love that picks up the woman caught in adultery, that parties with sinners, that speaks truth into the contrived judgment of the bigot, and that loves us without measure.

This site is not meant to condemn churches, but to offer an apology for our (the church) misrepresentation of the one who brought a hope, peace, and life to us. It is also to say that there are followers of Christ in nearly every local church who know the hope that does not waiver, the love that does not fail and the peace that is unexplainable. If you know this Jesus I ask you to join the resistance against the darkness that so easily weighs us down with greed, gossip, souvenir faith, and airbrushed hope. If you don’t know this Jesus I dare you to let him have your life. You will never be the same.
